The www.5t.torino.it site provides citizens with a wide range of useful services for prior
planning of movements round the city.
At the moment, the information covers the metropolitan area of Turin and in the near future will
embrace large part of Piedmont region.
Users can carry out the following operations on the site:
The site has been a great success, with up to 140,000 route calculation requests from citizens each month.
This service, which came on stream in 2001, is one of the most popular and most widely-used
to check the expected time of arrival of public vehicles at any of the 3000 stops dotted round
the city.
The user simply writes a text message (SMS) indicating the number of the stop concerned
and sends it to the number 339 9949990.
The reply, received almost immediately, provides all the information required.
The same service can also be used for prior checking of available parking at Turin car-parks,
sending a message with the letter "P" to the same phone number.
At 153 stops (to be increased shortly to 300), specific displays provide information regarding
the arrival times of public vehicles and any modifications to the service so that users know precisely
how long they have to wait and can decide accordingly.
26 VMS panels on the main access routes to the city to direct the flow of traffic,
advice drivers on the less congested directions.
Another 18 mobile panels moved around the city provide information regarding any changes
to the road network and temporary worksites.
One of 5T's other tasks is hardware and software maintenance of the GTT fleet management system (SIS).
GTT through this system guarantees improved regularity of the public transport service
and enhances the safety of both drivers and citizens.
